Are you ready to turn your passion for food into a professional career? Poppin Plates is looking for driven, reliable candidates to join our official Culinary Arts Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

This is a focused, hands-on paid pathway designed for individuals who want to master professional kitchen operations, commercial culinary techniques, and inventory management. You will work in a fast-paced environment alongside experienced chefs to gain the technical skills and operational confidence required to enter high-demand culinary careers and union apprenticeship tracks.

What You Will Learn (Curriculum Focus)

  • Knife Skills & Kitchen Safety: Master sanitation standards, proper tool handling, and professional station organization (mise en place).

  • Foundational Cooking Techniques: Learn commercial preparation for stocks, foundational sauces, protein fabrication, and dry/moist heat execution.

  • Kitchen Dynamics & Expediting: Experience verbal communication under pressure, working the line, and managing ticket timing.

  • Menu Engineering & Cost Control: Understand food cost margins, inventory tracking, portion control, and waste reduction.

  • High-Volume Catering Logistics: Plan, prep, and execute large-scale food production for community and corporate events.

Requirements

  • Technology: Must own and operate a modern smartphone capable of running kitchen logistics, scheduling, and learning apps.

  • Physical Capability: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, handle kitchen tools, and work on your feet for the duration of the 4-hour shift.

  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to commute daily to designated commercial kitchen hubs and training facilities.

  • Background Screening: Pass a standard safety and background check for food service placement.
