FOX 32 Chicago Feature: ‘Building Futures on Borrowed Time’ — Save Our City, Save Our Future Youth Workforce Program

As featured on FOX 32 Chicago — August 27, 2026

FOX 32 Chicago recently highlighted Save Our City, Save Our Future and our mission to equip youth ages 16 to 24 with hands-on, paid trade training and essential career skills in drywall, electrical work, plumbing, and entrepreneurship.

Since last summer, our program has served over 120 young people across the Chicagoland area, giving them the tools, mentorship, and practical experience needed to build lasting careers and community impact.

“At a construction site in Chicago Heights, young people are learning how to hang drywall, handle electrical work, tackle plumbing and build something organizers hope will last much longer than the project itself: a future.” — FOX 32 Chicago

The Challenge Ahead & Why Community Support Matters

With our initial state grant funding ending on August 31, our upcoming fall programming faces an urgent funding gap, leaving more than 40 eager young people on our waiting list. To keep our doors open and continue providing these paid opportunities without interruption, our organization is actively seeking community partners, individual donors, and corporate sponsors.

Every dollar directly supports stipends, job site training materials, and professional certifications for local youth striving for a brighter future.
